Structural Adhesives

Structural Adhesives are two-component industrial adhesives designed for extremely strong and durable bonding. They are used for metals, plastics, wood and composite materials whenever very high bond strength and reliability are required.

Key Advantages:
• Very high bonding strength (comparable to welds)【3†L67-L75】【14†L75-L81】
• Excellent resistance to chemicals, oils and high temperatures
• Durable, long-lasting bonds even under vibration or impact
• Capable of bonding diverse materials (metals, plastics, composites, wood)
• Ideal for heavy-duty industrial assembly and maintenance applications

Applications:
• Metal-to-metal bonding in automotive, aerospace and machinery construction
• Bonding plastics and composites in demanding structural repairs
• Structural connections in building and manufacturing (frames, supports, panels)
• Industrial production, repairs and maintenance requiring reliable joints

Technical Data:
• Technology: Two-part adhesive (resin + hardener), mixed in specified ratio
• Bond strength (shear): up to ~15–25 N/mm² (material-dependent)【14†L75-L81】
• Work life: from seconds to minutes (depending on formulation)
• Gap fill capability: up to ~0.5 mm (typical for structural acrylics)【14†L99-L100】
• Service temperature: roughly –50 °C to +80…+120 °C, depending on specific adhesive (selected types withstand up to +150 °C)【3†L67-L75】【14†L75-L81】

Usage:
Surfaces must be clean, dry, and free of grease. Remove old adhesive residues and roughen smooth surfaces. Mix resin (component A) and hardener (component B) in the specified ratio, then apply the mixture to one surface. Join the parts together and hold with light pressure for a few minutes. Adhesive cures at room temperature; full strength is reached in hours. For heavy assemblies, clamp or fixture as needed during cure.

Storage:
• Store components in original sealed containers, protected from moisture
• Recommended storage temperature: +8…+21 °C (cool, dry place)【18†L143-L146】
• Keep away from direct sunlight and high heat (above +30 °C may degrade adhesives)
• Do not return excess mixed adhesive into the original container
• Ensure lids are tightly closed to prevent moisture or contaminants from entering

FAQ:

What are structural adhesives?
Structural adhesives are two-part adhesives that cure to form very strong, durable bonds. Once mixed, they provide bond strengths comparable to welding or mechanical fasteners【3†L67-L75】【14†L75-L81】.

Where are structural adhesives used?
They are used to bond metals, plastics, wood and composites in industries like automotive, aerospace, electronics and construction. They serve as an alternative to rivets and welds, creating joints without additional fasteners【18†L143-L146】.

How do they differ from other adhesives?
Compared to common glues, structural adhesives offer much higher shear and peel strength and can fill larger gaps. They maintain bond integrity under vibration, shock, chemicals and wide temperature ranges.

Can structural adhesives replace welding?
Yes. Modern structural adhesives can replace spot welds or bolts in many applications, providing equal or greater joint strength without distorting the base materials【18†L143-L146】【25†L174-L181】.
